PHILOSOPHERS OF CLEMENTINA SCHOOL (PHOCLEMS)
Is a registered center whose activities revolved around the children and persons with disabilities (PHOCLEM) had its inception in January, 2011 with its location in Kasarani Nairobi Kenya?

The aims and objectives of the center are as follows:
·         To create awareness and sensitive the society on causes, effects and intervention measures on disabilities.
·         To develop positive attitude in parents, teachers, peers and the community at large towards children with special needs in education
·         To carry out assessments/screening to children with special needs.
·         To conduct consultations: offer professional advice on how to stimulate development, handling and management of specific conditions, information on adaptive equipments and toys, referrals to schools, doctors, therapists and other appropriate services and to conduct monitoring and evaluation to the learners.
·         To provide equal opportunities to all children to be able to share knowledge, resources and experiences.
·         Dissemination of information to parents, educational and health professionals by providing
ü  List of schools/units/programmes
ü  Details of societies and centers that can provide information and help in specific conditions.
ü  Contact details for qualified professionals in the field of special education and therapies
ü  A selection of videos on specific conditions, which can be rented at a minimal fee.

·         Information and resources materials equipments and devices pertaining to various conditions to minimize the effects of disabilities on the child.
·         To provide an inclusive education model with the best approaches to accommodate all children in regular classes regardless of their disabilities or abilities and to facilitate inclusion of the learner in all aspects of life.

Our current position:
-          Currently the center has identified twelve (12) children with special needs who are benefiting from the programme.
-          Under our activities magazine, out of the twelve (12) learners, four (4) suffered trauma, three (3) are physically challenged, four (4) are learners with autism conditions while one 1 suffered condition of Down’s syndrome.
-          The center other than services has provided mobility devices for those with physical challenges, a proper programs for parents and learners with autism to able to attend schools i.e. information among others on diet, therapy (occupational therapy and financial faculties cater for their educational in appropriate schools.
-          Guidance and counselling to the parents and learners including sensitization of immediate relatives and families.
-          The center has also recruited seven professionals to carry out its mandate in implementing its objectives.



An example of one of the situations on trauma area recently identified by the centre, is Justus Juma 13 years of age living in Dandora phase one shown on the picture. Justus should be in high school in form one but due to the state of his family, the boy has been forced to drop out of school to work as a casual laborer to get his basic needs. The parents divorced and the mother who was initially living with him could no longer take care of him due to her health condition. His aspiration is to become a doctor when he grows up.

Collaboration 
The center collaborates with the following sectors to work towards its goals in terms of information and resources.
·         Religious organizations
·         Non-governmental organizations
·         Individuals with the will to uplift the societies
·         Well wishers and groups
·         Government departments
·         Societies and organizations for those with disabilities
·         Schools and centers of learning.
·         Medical institutions

Plans on focus
Currently there are additional twenty (20) children with special needs identified by the professionals and who should be receiving the various services from the center. The numbers of children with disabilities are growing day by day has the requirements of the center. The center is looking forward to provide the following for the now 32 children.
-          Guidance and counselling to the children and the parents
-          Educational placement facility for the learners
-          Educational resources and devices for those with learners
-          Training of the staff on outreach programme
-          Distribution of the offices to the slum areas to reach the affected population easily.
